Look on the internet… there are hundreds, if not thousands of groups and people who do paranormal investigating, or “ghosthunting”. For the most part, most of these people and groups focus on human spirits and hauntings. Their main goal is to gather evidence; take photographs, audio and video recordings and electronic measurements. That is an important part of this work, without evidence collection we would never be able to prove that the supernatural exists. A few of these groups have done an outstanding job on their side of the work, obtaining evidence and publicizing the existence of human spirits, a very important part of this work.
Too many, however, don’t really bring closure to the people needing help. That is very troublesome… they are asked in to help with a haunting and a group of people show up, taking over the persons house, take pictures, audio, video and then state that not enough or no evidence was acquired and a second, third, etc visit is needed. When you go to their website, your case is listed on the site, photos are there, but did you really get the help you needed? Very few case files I’ve read on many of these sites include ANYTHING dealing with what they did to actually help bring closure to the cases they investigated. It almost appears like they’re competing amongst themselves to see who can get the most pictures or the most stories or the most audio (EVP’s). Why do they really exist? It seems to me that they are trying for the most publicity… that’s the wrong reason, in my eyes anyway. I am NOT saying that all of the groups or people are like that, there are several organizations that are truly out to help others, but not enough when compared to how many are available over the web. If you are in a situation where you need legitimate help, be wary as to who you contact.
Anyone, from any walk of life, can be a paranormal investigator. All that is needed is the desire to find and experience the unknown. You can have only the most basic of equipment or the most sophisticated equipment available. You can learn from any experienced investigator, they can teach you much… but the best teacher is experience. Get out there and do it, get involved. One point to make here… if you are currently, or have been in the past, the victim of a human haunting or preternatural attack, I DO NOT recommend you ever become an investigator, you are already very susceptible and you put yourself and/or family at great risk by re-exposing yourself to supernatural entities.
